Astra Taylor on her book THE PEOPLE"S PLATFORM: Taking Back Power and Culture in the Digital Age
Hosts Celeste Carey and Cecil Prescod interview Astra Taylor, best-known as the director of two widely-acclaimed documentary films on philosophy (Zizek!; Examined Life). Her first book, THE PEOPLE’S PLATFORM, is just out from Metropolitan Books this month.
The book argues that the notion of the Internet as an unprecedented democratizing force, giving voice and power to those who previously had none, is vastly overblown; that the Internet in fact reflects and amplifies real-world inequities at least as much as it ameliorates them; that online, just as off-line, attention and influence largely accrue to those who already have plenty of both.
