ANDY ALLO AND KAMAL SHAW!!!
We have a VERY packed show for you- something we are really excited about!!!
We will be featuring an interview with ANDY ALLO, a current member of the new power generation... Yes, THAT new power generation. Allo, a contributing member of the group, says of Prince (the longtime leader of the NPG): "Collaborating with Prince was such a blessing. He created an environment that was open to any and all ideas. It was really exciting to bring him an acoustic song, which is how most of my songs began, and to see him turn them into these epic masterpieces".
Allo (who is from cameroon) has, from albums such as 'unfresh' to 'superconductor' produced sounds which shift from 'folky to funky', and even then it's difficult to pin down.
From her website (http://alloevolution.com
"Andy's new solo album, Superconductor, has people calling her a refreshing songbird with a bright funk soul. Even her peers can't stop singing her praises. Says R&B vocalist Ledisi, “After eight bars of her first song, 'People Pleaser', I realized that I had stopped breathing. Andy's songwriting is so refreshing, and vocally, she does just enough gentle gliding through her melodies. Her lyrics say it all, and the musicianship on this project reminds me why I fell in love with music".
'Superconductor' is indeed “all that” and so much more. The album is the sophomore effort of a young artist who is clearly going to be here for a long time, and the start of something musically fresh. Says Allo,"I created a genre called Alter.Hip.Soul for my first album, UnFresh (2009), whereas the compositions for Superconductor incorporate a variety of layers and a whole lot of Funk.""
In addition to our conversation with Andy Allo, we will be speaking with a brother we think EVERYONE should know about. His name is Kamal Shaw, and he is one of the most intelligent minds we know. We have truly been waiting for this moment, and we hope this is only the beginning of his time on the air with us. Kamal is:
-Principal and Creative Director for Fiat Lux | NYC, a consulting firm whose focus is providing consultative, event management, and branding services for those in the creative industries.
-Politcally, he is best defined as a "collapsitarian mercantile anarchist" who happens to be Black. A one-time student at Howard University who has a major bone to pick with the black bourgoisie of the United States.
Here are places to check out his work:
