Itoco Gracia: the Intrepid Principal of Cherryland Elementary

At the United States justice forum in San Jose California this year I had the oppertunity to see Itoco Garcia speak at the Rap Academy PMA. Garcia came from  bi-ricaial parents and spent time in the highlands of Scotland when he was a youngster. Landing in 3rd grade in the United States, unable to read at the "third grade level" but was able to knit, sew, speak a few languages and do advanced math he realized that on some levels the United States public school system has major issues. Some child developement experts say that a childs abliity to form a working narative from the writen word in negligable.

Check Out These Three New AM Public Affairs Shows on KBOO

Three new monthly shows were recently added to the KBOO Morning News and Public Affairs Line up.

Voices for the Animals promotes an increased awareness and appreciation for the animals in our homes and our environment, informing listeners about the challenges facing both domesticated pets and free-roaming wildlife. Hosts Dab Steadman and Courtney Scott will explore resources and remedies. They hope to inspire positive action and be a catalyst connecting people to local programs. It airs on the fourth Monday of the month at 11:30AM.

Happy First Anniversary to Sacred Circle TEMENOS

KBOO, as a community experiment is always evolving! New volunteers and new shows join in the mix of decades old programs and years of creativity! Every attempt at community building is highly celebrated and in July, we mark the 1 year anniversary of Sacred Circle TEMENOS a late night music program that airs on alternating Thursday nights at Midnight (technically Friday mornings) hosted by Diablo -Dirty Diablo (aka Tim Nakayama).

I sat down with Tim and asked him to reflect on 1 year of Sacred Circle TEMENOS, a show he describes as a "Live mix tape"!
