last journey back to the egg in 2012, featuring a live set from The Golden Motors!

It's the last BACK TO THE EGG episode of 2012, featuring live music from The Golden Motors!

The Golden Motors is a relatively new group fronted by singer/songwriter wunderkind Dan Jones. There is a little something for everyone in this band: Power-Pop, Post-Punk, Loud Guitars, and wry lyrics. Their song "Perfect Flowers" off of their self-titled debut (released this year, you can find it at CD Baby) is indeed just that: PERFECT.

live set from Michael The Blind and his band The Els this morning on Back To The Egg!

Back To The Egg is thrilled to welcome Michael The Blind and his band The Els to late-night KBOO radio!

The band released a fantastic record this year called "Are's and Els", I'm sure they'll be playing some live versions of those songs tonight.

After the band plays, there will be the usual sonic mayhem, fractured pop, and whatever else the Portland morning brings us.

Won't you join us? 90.7 FM or, and follow along on twitter @backtotheeegg.

live set from Portland electronic duo Chemical Channel tonight on Back To The Egg!

Back To The Egg welcomes Chemical Channel to the KBOO studios for a live set.

Here's what Willamette Week's Shane Danaher had to say about the duo's music:

"Though Portland’s electronic music talent has tended toward hyphenate genre tags—electro-pop, electro-goth, indie-electronica—few producers have dedicated themselves to the creation of synthesizer-born rave fuel with quite the orthodox enthusiasm displayed by Chemical Channel. Absent lyrics, winking samples and the invasive influence of non-synthesized sounds, Chemical Channel’s tracks skirt the edges of trance, layering bleeping tones atop one another to form pulsing, sonic ziggurats."

They will play live in hour 1 -- midnight on KBOO. Tune in y'all!

I should’ve know this would be a fun show when I pulled in front of
KBOO and was instantly dwarfed by two GIGANTOR tour buses belonging to
RZA and the Wu Tang Clan. Got some phone calls during the show, one guy
said he was calling from a convenience store that he was in the middle
of robbing, and then asked if KBOO needed some of the money. Yes, I
said, bring it on by! *SMIRK*

For next week’s show I’m going to pick the transitions i’m most
proud of so far, and assemble something that looks like a BEST OF. This
is normally something you do years down the line when the host has
taken ill, but I’m going to see my family over the 4th and they want to
know what my show sounds like.

A couple of music choices in this show were inspired by dreams I had last week.
In the first, I was wandering through a record store that looks
similar to the video store in the movie “Be Kind Rewind”. I was
wandering through the aisles, trying to get ideas for my radio show and
The Modern Lovers’ “Roadrunner” was playing over the store’s sound

In the other dream, I was looking at some vinyl that a street dealer
was selling on the outskirts of a college campus. There were some Robyn
Hitchcock promos that I had never seen before (of course), but wouldn’t
you know…..I didn’t have any money. I would wager that this is a
standard dream for musicgeeks; running across rare or previously
unheard-of albums by favorite artists and not having any money, or
waking up before you get to hear the tracks or see the track titles.
*GRIN* Anyway, in response to this, I played a cut from my red vinyl
“Madonna Of The Wasps” promo 12″ single - a great spoken word bit from
Robyn. Why he hasn’t released an album of spoken word stuff, I DON’T

Johnny Indovina from Human Drama's new disc

I am hoping you'll add a track from the new disc by Johnny Indovina & Sound of the Blue Heart; I think it's a good fit for the show (I'm here in Portland).

Should I send you the cd?

Here's the links to sample some of the tracks:

Hope to hear from you soon,
