Back To The Egg's sixth annual Year-End special featuring a top ten albums list and some fave songs

It is time! It only happens once a year, and contains more talking than an entire year of Back To The Eggs put together. We're talking about the SIXTH ANNUAL Back To The Egg Year-End Special. Join Crackity Jones and guest host Michael Keefe (fellow music obsessive and Media Buyer at Annie Bloom's Books in the heart of Multnomah Village) as they wax philosophical about their Top Ten favorite albums of the year, all the while hoping that there'll be a bit of time left over in the three hour show for a BONUS ROUND in which they'll share some of the songs of 2013 that they could not get enough of. Fellow KBOO DJ Devin LaCroix once pronounced this annual year-end special one of his favorite KBOO events. Thanks, Devin, and we hope you'll ALL tune in!

Super XX Man for this moment in time was Scott Garred on vocals, acoustic guitar, ukelele and harmonica. Ali Wesley played flute, glockenspiel and vocal harmonies. Mike Johnson played acoustic guitar, melodica, and vocal harmonies. Bass Player and Drummer called in sick. ‘Tis the season….for Nyquil.

Listener Kristy called immediately after the show and said the nicest things, both about my show and about Super XX Man’s set. Calls like that really make a DJ’s week. Thank you so much. KBOO loves all of you right back.

Another listener called in and wanted me to dedicate a song to his pitbull Fernando, who they ALMOST had to put down, but in the end didn’t. Well, I’ll do you one better. I will dedicate this SHOW to Fernando. I’m glad you pulled through.

Last week when Boy Eats Drum Machine was here, we were talking about spontaneity at the KBOO studios. Well, guess what I witnessed this morning as I pulled up to the station? Tango at 3AM across the street from KBOO at the Imago Theater. The street was packed, both with cars, and people milling in and out. I cornered someone on my way out of the station to ask what it was all about, since the event was obviously still going, and he told me that it is a tango thing to “go all night”. Here’s to you tango folks as well.

I should have audio up in the next few days of both Super XX Man’s set, and Boy Eats Drum Machine’s set from last week. I’ll post links when it’s all ready.

He is our inaugural live guest, showing up at 4am to play a set. My daughter Eliza made him an award to celebrate that very fact.

Thanks for the requests! I’m always glad when it works out and I or KBOO actually have the songs that people want to hear. Dumpster Dave requested Buzzcocks’ “Ever Fallen In Love” and there just happened to be a live version in the KBOO library. He called back a little later to request The Clash’s “Armagideon Time”, and I was just about to play a different cut off The Clash - Live At Shea Stadium. Serendipity is what I think they call it.

And then there is the guy that calls weekly requesting Ministry’s “N.W.O” - he needs it to make his time at work go by faster. KBOO (and KPSU) used to get me through long evenings doing data entry for the post office, so I can totally relate.

Happy Birthday to my sister Wendy! I played B-52's "Strobelight" for her, even though she was probably asleep. When we were kids we used to laugh so hard at that song, especially when Fred Schneider says "Lemme kiss your PINEAPPLE!"

In other news, I should have a couple of guests on the program next month. Boy Eats Drum Machine is a local one-man band whose album "booomboxxx" is a great listen. Super XX Man also live here in PDX, they have a new album out called "There'll Be Diamonds" and there's a song on there called "Medication" that I think is the best thing they've ever done. I should have more specific information soon as to exact dates and times.

Finally, thanks to those twitter users who have begun following 'anodyneradio'. Feel free to add me and you can even request songs that way if you'd like.

08 David Byrne and Brian Eno - Everything That Happens Will Happen Today (self)
09 Lykke Li - Youth Novels (LL)
10 James - Hey Ma (Mercury)

JBJ’s list:
01 Kelley Stoltz - Circular Sounds (Sub Pop)
02 Cat Power - Jukebox (Matador)
03 Kaki King - Dreaming Of Revenge (Velour)
04 Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago (Jagjaguar)
05 Deerhoof - Offend Maggie (Kill Rock Stars)
06 Kathleen Edwards - Asking For Flowers (Zoe)

08 Rachel Taylor Brown - Half Hours With The Lower Creatures (Cutthroat Pop)

Notes:
It was difficult getting to and from KBOO for this show, what with the snow and freezing rain and all, but am so glad that I did! Thanks to my mom for loaning me her big red rental sleigh, and for everyone that called in. It feels really good to know that people are out there listening!

Johnny Indovina from Human Drama's new disc

I am hoping you'll add a track from the new disc by Johnny Indovina & Sound of the Blue Heart; I think it's a good fit for the show (I'm here in Portland).

Should I send you the cd?

Here's the links to sample some of the tracks:

Hope to hear from you soon,
Laurena
