Mint Chicks are huge back in New Zealand, but here in Portland, they're actually enjoying a degree of anonymity they can't get back home. We saw them playing at the Ash Street Saloon to about 6 people. They were having fun. We decided to mess with their unknown status by sneaking them onto the radio....late at night...
The Ubu Hour gets pre-empted by the Tofu Hour. Hear a stimulating lecture from a famous professor about the wonders of tofu and other soy products. Unfortunately most of the broadcast was cut out by a pirate radio signal.
Here is the audio of the pirate radio station that interrupted the KBOO air-signal during the UBU HOUR. Evidentally these pirates were broadcasting from the Willamette River, with this 24-hour radio broadcast for pirates.. Pirate news and music..
Members of legendary experimental band SMEGMA, now calling themselves Dr. Amazon, hit the KBOO studios sometime after midnight on Friday, July 15th for a sprawling sound feast that just about filled up The Outside World. Host daniel talks with the band, notably original Smegman Mike Lastra, about their history, the 70s in Pasadena, KPPC, The Firesign Theatre, The LA Free Music Society, etc. We probably talked too much, actually. too much fun, that guy. we will probably have him back soon, pick up where we left off..
