MT. HOOD TIMBER SALE STOPPED

WHILE ENVIRONMENTALISTS IN SOUTHERN AND WESTERN OREGON ARE STRUGGLING TO PROTECT THE REMAINING 18% OF OLD GROWTH FOREST THERE, PORTLAND AREA ENVIRONMENTAL GROUPS ARE CELEBRATING A VICTORY TODAY.
A COURT RULING PASSED DOWN SATURDAY WILL PREVENT A PROPOSED TIMBER SALE OF OLD GROWTH FOREST ON MOUNT HOOD.

OREGON RURAL SCHOOLS ACT FUNDING

WITH FEDERAL FUNDS FROM THE SECURE RURAL SCHOOLS ACT BEING CUT BY THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION’S BUDGET, RURAL COUNTIES IN OREGON HAVE BEEN DISCUSSING CLOSING LIBRARIES AND LAYING OFF WORKERS TO MAKE UP FOR BUDGET SHORTFALLS.
BUT SOME ENVIRONMENTAL GROUPS HAVE PROPOSED A DIFFERENT SOLUTION THAT WOULD BOTH PRESERVE PUBLIC LAND AND PROVIDE THE COUNTIES WITH MUCH-NEEDED FUNDS.
