THE PORT OF TACOMA HAS BEEN DRAWING PROTESTS THE FIRST FEW WEEKS OF MARCH DUE TO SHIPMENTS OF STRYKER COMBAT VEHICLES TO IRAQ FROM THAT PORT.
THE STRYKER IS AN ARMORED VEHICLE, MUCH LIKE A TANK. THE MILITARY MOVED THEIR SHIPPING OPERATIONS TO TACOMA IN AN APPARENT ATTEMPT TO EVADE EARLIER PROTESTS AT THE PORT OF OLYMPIA.
MARCH 7th MARKED A SUCCESS FOR PROTESTERS WALLY CUDDEFORD, CAITLIN ESWORTHY AND JEFF BERRYHILL, WHEN A PIERCE COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE DISMISSED FELONY ASSAULT CHARGES AGAINST ALL THREE.
HOWEVER, CUDDEFORD WAS FORCIBLY ARRESTED ONCE AGAIN, THIS TIME DURING A TACOMA CITY COUNCIL MEETING IN WHICH HE REFUSED TO STOP READING A PREPARED STATEMENT.
