The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded today (10/7/2011) to three activist women from Africa & the Middle East: Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee and Tawakul Karman.

Linda Olson-Osterlund spoke with Tawakul Karman in September 2010 on A Deeper Look. The well known Yemeni activist and journalist talked about the government repression being carried out in Yemen in the name of the "War on Terror" and about the ongoing struggle for freedom of the expression, including the recent jailings of journalists.

The conversation also included Pardiss Kebriaei, staff attorney for the Center For Constitutional Rights, who spoke about the CCR lawsuit to end targeted assassinations.

Canadian attorney Dennis Edney joins host Linda Olson-Osterlund to talk about his 8 year relationship with the young prisoner he calls " like a son to me" and his determined fight to see Canadian citizen Omar Khadr released. Khadr, who was only 15 years old when captured by US forces in 2002, is on trial now by Military Commission at Guantanamo. His trial is a violation of International law on the treatment of child soldiers and yet is being vigorously pursued by the Obama administration. Learn about the letter Omar wrote to Edney in May and why it has been released to the public.
