Also on the docket for tomorrow’s City Council meeting is a resolution declaring that corporations are not people, and supporting a constitutional amendment to that effect.

Rich Cohen with the Occupy Portland Visioning team says that this is just one part of a larger movement across the country to take back power from corporations and return it to the people.

Portland City Council will vote on a Resolution to Bring War Dollars Home

At a special session tomorrow afternoon, The Portland City Council will vote on a resolution calling on the US government to end the war in Afghanistan and bring troops and contractors home from Iraq.

The statement is called the “War Dollars Home Resolution”, and is based upon the resolution passed by the US conference of Mayors in June.

A coalition of peace groups in the Portland area have come together in support of the resolution.

KBOO’s Ben Renner spoke with Dan Handelman of Peace and Justice works about the importance and possible impact of the resolution.

Proposed Immigration Rule Change Could Benefit Oregon Families

President Obama today proposed a rule change that will allow immigrants applying for residency to remain in the country while the petition is being considered.

Previously, these immigrants would be forced to leave the country for three to ten years while the petition was processed.

Francisco Lopez with the Oregon Immigrant Rights Coalition spoke with KBOO’s Jenka Soderberg about what this means for Oregon’s immigrant families.

Rally this Weekend to Support US Postal Service

The Portland branch of The National Association of Letter Carriers has called for a rally this weekend to save America’s postal service. The rally to support the postal service will be this Sunday at 2pm at Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland.

Legislation currently in progress in both the US House and Senate would resolve the financial crisis of the US Postal Service, and postal workers are asking Oregonians to show their support for these bills.
