Schizophrenia recovery through psychotherapy - Catherine Penney, RN
Can people recover completely from schizophrenia through psychotherapy? Or is it a chronic disease with no cure and only medication to control symptoms? Catherine Penney, RN, was considered a chronic case of severe schizophrenia, left on a hospital back ward with no hope. A maverick doctor had faith that Cathy's catatonia and bizarre behavior were meaningful, and offered regular compassionate listening as the treatment. Slowly Cathy recovered, and went on to become a psychiatric nurse and worldwide speaker on mental health alternatives. She is profiled in the book Dante's Cure and featured in the video Take These Broken Wings.
