Anti-Islam Rally Planned in Phoenix

A rally in front of the Islamic Community Center of Phoenix, Arizona, has been scheduled for tomorrow night at 6:15, during Friday prayers. the organizers say it is in response to the attack on a "draw the prophet" event in Garland, Texas earlier this month, in which two gunmen with ties to the ICCP were killed by police before entering the building. Organizers are using a Facebook page to gather attendees for the rally, which with include its own "draw the prophet" contest. Richard Rothstein is a research associate with the Economic Policy Institute.  He has written extensively on the effect of inequitable education on black and minority children in the US.  His latest piece for the EPI, focuses on the complicity of the Federal government in creating policies that supported discrimination of blacks at every level of society in Ferguson, Missouri and how those policies are rampant not only in Ferguson but across the country.  Don Merrill talks with Mr. Rothstein about the period of time when discriminatory policies became embedded in our cities, why blacks have gotten the worst of it and why a data intensive investigation of the problem doesn't equal the political will to solve it.
