Aerial Spraying violations: Applebee Aviation license suspended

Regulators from two state agencies have fined an aerial spraying company a total of almost ten thousand dollars.

Applebee Aviation has been fined by the state Occupational Safety and Health Administration eighty eight hundred dollars and the state Department of Agriculture fined the company eleven hundred dollars.

Both agencies are requiring the Portland-area company to correct the violations through new procedures and training.

Voices for the Animals promotes an increased awareness and appreciation for the animals in our homes and our environment, informing listeners about the challenges facing both domesticated pets and free-roaming wildlife. Hosts Dab Steadman and Courtney Scott will explore resources and remedies. They hope to inspire positive action and be a catalyst connecting people to local programs. It airs on the fourth Monday of the month at 11:30AM.

Animal rights activists protest UW Animal Lab

Protesters are gathering at the University of Washington in Seattle tomorrow to challenge the construction of a new animal research lab on campus.
The University of Washington already holds over a thousand monkeys, and hundreds of other animals, to carry out medical and other types of research on the bodies of the animals.

The protests against the new lab have escalated in recent months to include Skanska, the construction company that is building the new lab, as well as the University of Washington.
This week, on April 22nd, activists hung a massive banner from the Hawthorne Bridge in Portland.  The banner read, “U-W and SKANSKA HAVE BLOOD ON THEIR Hands.”

28 Timber Sales Cancelled in Oregon Coast Marbled Murrelet Habitat

A coalition of Oregon environmental groups claimed victory after they reached a settlement with the state of Oregon, resulting in the cancellation of 28 timber sales in the Elliott, Clatsop and Tillamook State Forests. These lands include crucial habitat for the threatened marbled murrelet.
