Mister Chill'R is a computer musician, composer, arranger and producer, who creates chillout, downtempo, and ambient electronica. Comprised of the musical talents of Matt Madonna and Ryan Anderson, Love and Light hails from the high desert region of the Reno/Tahoe Basin. Creating music that touches their hearts and elevates their souls, the duo's goal is the uplifting of people across the world through melodic synth lines, complex chord structure, intricate rhythms, and funky, chunky bass lines. Though having a strong focus on midtempo bass music, their span of producing talents are limitless, crossing into the realms of melodic dubstep as well as half-time drum and bass and four-on-the-floor bangers. Whether it is sweaty club, a beautiful outdoor festival setting or enjoying a night at home in the lab, Love and Light music moves humans in a vibrant and deeply conscious way.

"The lyrical style is acrobatic and joyfully disjointed—think Aesop Rock meets Busta Rhymes—while the subject matter owes far more to the post-apocalyptic claustrophobia found on Funcrusher Plus than to the more ubiquitous ride-or-die ethos of The Chronic. In cinematic terms, it eschews the tragic braggadocio of Scarface for a universe that is decidedly Blade Runner in its subterranean futurism." - Ryan Feigh (Portland Mercury) http://www.portlandmercury.com/portland/hive-mind/Content?oid=3300085

"It’s psychedelic rap, and in tandem with a pair of earbuds and Gavin Theory’s woozy, drum-’n’-bass-inspired beats, there’s enough here to trip you the fuck out." - Casey Jarman (Willamette Week)

Lucas Dix and Gavin Theory began their lives taught to be wary of each other's village's clan. Lucas Dix was born to the Claud Six people, green thumbed ground tillers of the sunny Eastern Valley, while Gavin Theory was born to the Mysterioso people, sky travelers of the shadowy Northern Slopes. The two villages had long been at odds because of their conflicting ideologies. The Mysteriosos were nocturnal beings who spent their time either tracking the movement of the stars or exploring space in meticulousy designed crafts of glass and metal, always eager to learn new things about the Universe and themselves. The little attention they paid to Earth was merely to hunt for sustenance or to collect materials to fuel further exploration. This directly clashed with the very pleasant and simple lifestyle of the Claud Six people, who woke early to reap, sew, and create from their numerous cultivated plants. Once their work was done, they would relax with each other and sip their fine ales, eat extravagant feasts, smoke their herbs and sing songs into the evening. The only real similarities between the neighboring cultures was that they shared a small lake as their only source of fresh water and both had a love for language and the spoken word. The Mysteriosos were renouned engaging storytellers and had become great at conversing with many different types of people on their adventures, while the Claud Six people were extremely open and understanding people who communicated all day to one another, and had gotten to know each other intimately. They were also well liked and trusted by all who talked to them.

LIVING LIGHT

Brainchild of Psylab keyboardist Eartha Harris, Living Light blends downtempo beats with world percussion, psychedelic glitches, middle eastern melodies, soothing electronic harmonies and deep pulsing dub baselines. The name has a triple meaning and refers to "living lightly" upon the planet, maintaining a positive outlook on life, and gives nod to the human body's cells emitting photons.

Life-long musician, Eartha produced for solo project "Project Sphere" from 1998-2006, and has been touring and performing live with Psylab for the past 6 years. Living Light was birthed spring 2013, and is rocking festivals all summer including PEX, Return to Roots, Blissfest, Flux Boston, Figment, and multiple soundcamps at Burning Man.

Living Light's first full length album "Ecliptic Visions" is being released on Desert Trax this fall with a follow up remix EP already in the works with remixes from Bluetech, Kaminanda, and more...

Pretty LightsLETS GET BUSY
Pretty Lights is the musical vision of the ultra-versatile Colorado based producer Derek Vincent Smith. At a time when music lovers from almost all subcultures and genres are finding common ground in the basic form of bangin' beats, Pretty Lights is giving the people what they want: electro organic cutting-edge party rocking beats that fill venues with energy and emotion and send dance floors into frenzies. And the people are responding. Pretty Lights has given away more than three million free album downloads to date.

“The Illumination Tour,” Pretty Lights’ 2012 U.S. run, kicked off with a sold-out, two-night stand at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO. Reviews for the 55-date tour were stellar: “Smith wowed the crowd with his Crayola-colored set of lasers and his ever-present grin of pure joy as he danced along to his own tunes,” said SPIN while Rolling Stone called him “wildly unique and talented.” In addition to the headline dates, Pretty Lights played the Electric Zoo, North Coast and CounterPoint festivals and partnered with Skrillex to spearhead the two-day “With Your Friends Festival” in downtown Nashville.

In another innovative partnership, Pretty Lights teamed up with Bassnectar to put on a two-day “BassLights” event in December 2012, marking the first-ever electronic music shows at historic Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, VA. Pretty Lights closed out 2012 with two intimate shows at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom.

A brand new Pretty Lights album is due out in 2013. “I've completely switched up my process of producing and composing. It is being created from all originally composed samples off of self made vinyl and all analog modular synthesis,” says Smith. “It’s prolific, conceptual, consistent, yet extremely diverse, and a real substantial piece of music you can sink your teeth into.”

On July 2, 2013, not one but two new Pretty Lights albums were released: A Color Map of the Sun and its essential companion, Live Studio Sessions From A Color Map of the Sun. The first PL efforts to be sold commercially after a series of acclaimed free-download albums and EPs, the Color Map project represents a turning point in Pretty Lights mastermind Derek Vincent Smith’s artistic growth. A self-professed “sample collage” artist, Smith decided it was time to create his own. “Before, I’d combine 25 samples into one song,” he explains. “This time, I was going to create my own original sources, retaining the timbre that spans the great musical era of the last century – from modern classical and jazz, to ‘60s soul and beyond.”

This idea sent Smith into an intensely laborious, obsessive, ambitious creative process. Where so much of today’s music is created entirely “in the box” using digital plug-ins, Smith went totally analog – recording musicians direct to tape (including himself on bass, keys, and modular synths), using authentic vintage instruments, pressing the results onto vinyl. He then fashioned those sounds into two visionary works. A Color Map… finds Smith taking Pretty Lights’ trademark combo of gritty, crate-digging hip-hop, speaker-shredding digital thump, and instrumentally-based psychedelia to new heights over 13 songs – from the dancefloor-ready yet kaleidoscopically abstract “Prophet” to the syncopated funk of the Talib Kweli-driven single “Around The Block.” Live Studio Sessions…, meanwhile, boils down the raw material used to create the tracks on A Color Map…, reducing 30 minute jams into 4 minute breaks. It’s all part of the multifaceted creativity that the albums’ titles suggest – a reference to a 1670s-era essay by Isaac Newton describing the experiments that led to his discovery of visible light’s color spectrum. “What Newton evoked I found especially poetic and beautiful,” Smith explains. “It fit what the name ‘Pretty Lights’ is supposed to embody – the idea of an artistic eye always looking at the world, searching for beauty and new inspiration.”

Craig Burk

It's Craig. I used to host a Sunday evening show and we met one time at the studio.I am interested in how you layer the sounds. I found some of the CDs on your 2/10 playlist on Amazon but now have to assume you were layering tracks. Curious about your playlist. On 2/10, I tuned in at about 9:30 and was very impressed despite my hither-to strong reservations about much electronica. You created a really a nice mix that was not dragged down by a too-obvious 4/4 beat. (I can't handle too much 4/4 on floor.) Will send my email address to you via your name since KBOO may not be OK with my posting it here.

Where is the playlist for 2/10/09

Where is your playlist for tonight. The last 30 minutes or so were pretty good and countered my belief that the beat stuff can be pretty much "you get the point after about two minutes."

GSAF Music

You have been *totally* killing it for the last twenty minutes. Thank you for the music.
