Short Description: 
Oedipus the King

Host Dmae Roberts features Oedipus the King and the It's All Greek To Me festival (September 10-26) in Portland. She's joined by Elizabeth Huffman, artistic director of Classic Creek Theatre of Oregon which is the only professional Greek Theatre festival in the country.

Huffman is directing a new translations of Sophocles' Oedipus the King. Actor Trieu Tran leads a cast in an inventive production incorporating Japanese Kabuki, Noh and Butoh elements.The production is performed outdoors at the Reed College's Cerf Ampitheatre.

 Host Dmae Roberts features an in-depth and lively interview with Northwest Writer Ivan Doig.

A prolific writer of books set in the American West, Doig talks about his latest novel, Work Song set in the bustling international melting pot of Butte, Montana of 1919. Doig talks about his research on the effects of mining on the land, the workers and the citizens who form a diverse community often at odds with the mining company that rules so many of their lives.

Allen Nause, Artists Repertory Theatre

Artists Repertory Theatre got a head start to their season and unveiled their co-production with the Sydney Theatre Company. ART has had a long history of international collaboration, but this new production of Eugene O’Neil’s “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” starring acclaimed actor William Hurt.  

Host/Producer Dmae Roberts talks with Allen Nause, Todd Van Voris and Stephanie Mulligan who also traveled to Australia to work on the production. She also presents an Oregon Treasures feature story focused on Artistic Director Allen Nause who most people in the theatre community regard as an enduring and visionary force behind ART.

Dmae Roberts presents a special Oregon Treasures edition of Stage and Studio.  Sitka Center for Art and Ecology celebrates its 40th anniversary on August 28th. The picturesque center nestled in beautiful old growth forest of  Sitka Spruce has nourished the talents of writers, visual artists and scientists for four decades. Through workshops and residencies, the Sitka Center remains a cherished place of learning for people throughout the Northwest and Northern California.

Jessica Wallenfel's original rock ballet "Find Me Beside You."

Host Dmae Roberts features Jessica Wallenfels' world premiere of her original rock ballet "Find Me Beside You." The show is a Many Hats Collaboration that tells the story of a group of teens in 1968 Belfast who have formed their own family. With a 10-piece ensemble of actors, singers and musicians, this new summer production blends rock opera and physical theatre. Guests are: Jessica Wallenfel, director/choregrapher, Eric Nordin, musical director,  and Dave Cole, lead actor.  The show runs August 4th through 14th.

Flute Alliance to break Guinness World Record

Dmae Roberts focuses on the importance of music education with The Flute Alliance. They're staging the Flute Fandango on Aug. 6th at Oaks Amusement Park in Portland. The international gathering of flutists will attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records. Denise Westby, founder of Flute Alliance and John Gibson, president of The Music Education Assistance Program joins Dmae to talk about kids and music. They'll also play cuts from the recent Flute Alliance Boot camp.

JAW: A Playwrights Festival 2010

Host Dmae Roberts features JAW: A Playwright's Festival 2010. She talks with Associate Artistic Director Rose Riordan and the "Made In Oregon" playwrights: William S. Gregory, Sara Jean Accuardi and Ebbe Roe Smith. Their plays range in topics from the first African American officer in the U.S. military to a portrait of an elderly widow to the nightmares of a middle-aged man. All the staged reading events of JAW are free to the public and run July 17 - 25, 2010 at Portland Center Stage's Armory building.

Actors Conversatory Showcase & Filmusik's Gulliver's Travels

Dmae Roberts presents the graduation showcase of the Actors Conservatory Theatre July 14-17. Two students perform their monologues live in the studio and Artistic Director Beth Harper tells us about the school and the program. We also hear from Galen Huckins of Filmusik a group that performs original soundtracks live for classic films. Their next production is  "Gulliver's Travels" July 16-23 at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland.
