Sarrazin says Jews have a common gene and Muslims are either unwilling or unable to integrate into western societies. Intellectuals in Germany have roundly condemned the book, but a large number of average Germans think Sarrazin has publicly expressed what has long been tabu. Our guests:  Feridun Bek, born and raised in Germany to Turkish immigrant parents, Mr. Bek is an auto executive who now lives in Detroit. He'll talk about what Germany and the U.S. do right -- and wrong -- when it comes to immigration. And Sergey Lagodinsky.

Margaret Atwood discusses her latest novel, "The Year of the Flood," just out in trade paperback. She is interviewed by Richard Wolinsky.

Margaret Atwood is a Canadian author, poet, critic, essayist, feminist and social campaigner.

Best known for her work as a novelist, she is also an award winning poet, having published 15 books of poetry to date.

Her novel "The Handmaid's Tale" received the very first Arthur C. Clarke Award in 1987. The award is given for the best science fiction novel that was first published in the United Kingdom during the previous year. It was also nominated for the 1986 Nebula Award, and the 1987 Prometheus Award, both science fiction awards.

Van Jones, environmental advocate, civil rights activist, and attorney, is a co-founder of three non-profit organizations. In 1996, he founded the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights which works for alternatives to violence. In 2005, he co-founded Color of Change, an advocacy group for African Americans. In 2007, he founded Green for All. His first book is "The Green Collar Economy."

He spoke on "Beyond Green Jobs" in Portland on January 25th at the University of Oregon. His talk was sponsored by the Oregon Humanities Center at the University of Oregon.

Violence against sex-workers happens daily and often goes unreported and unaddressed. Due to the nature of the profession, the growing population of sex-workers in Portland is forced to live outside the
everyday awareness of most residents. Because a blind eye is often turned towards this population it is difficult to provide care for survivors of violence and to prevent future attacks. This segment
highlights the Sex-Worker Outreach Coalition (SWOC) and Portland’s Bad
Date Line.
