Renowned jazz drummer and long-time Portland resident Dick Berk

will be featured and honored today during KBOO's 45th anniversary

Spring Membership Drive.  Dick's discography is too extensive

to cover in one show, so today we'll showcase Dick's many years

of wonderfully swinging music leading his Jazz Adoption Agency.

Dick is ailing and can't be with us in person today.

The Harlem Renaissance--music and spoken word. Continuation of last week's theme. The Harlem Renaissance was an intellectual, literary, musical and artistic explosion of the 1920s and 1930s. Nick Gefroh hosts. Plus a surprise interview by Daniel Flessas with Han Bennink, Dutch jazz drummer and percussionist who is considered a pivotal figure in early European free jazz.

Then we'll turn to the recent Allman Brothers run at the Beacon Theater in New York. They opened things up to honor Jimi Hendrix and his 70th birthday by playing 1983(A Merman I Should Turn To Be) > Mountain Jam > 1983 > Mountain Jam.
