Dear Listeners, You heard a nice set of music this morning (well, you heard it if you were up before 6...). I did a little set related to Woody Guthrie--the 100th anniversary of his birth is this year (July 14th, to be exact), so I played the title track off a tribute album that was recently released. The musicians on the album worked with Guthrie's daughter, Nora, to set music to his words. The piece I played was an instrumental by Van Dyke Parks.

Rise when the Rooster Crows on 03/08/12

Air date:
Thu, 03/08/2012 - 5:30am - 7:00am
Short Description:
Women rock your soul this International Women's Day, representing indigenous & traditional musics

We'll be getting up even before the hens start a layin' to bring you an especially crunchy Rise when the Rooster Crows. I've been delving into aboriginal, indigenous, and traditional catalogs looking for the right blend to rev up your morning.

Don't be afeared -- we'll still have that traditional music you have come to expect between 5:30 and 7 am -- but maybe we can do a bit of offroading in honor of International Women's Day.

Theme show with Todd: Songs about cities

Back To The Egg returns to you this Saturday night with the first theme show since "Beatlesque II" in October of 2010: SONGS ABOUT CITIES!

Co-hosted and co-curated by friend of the show Todd Bayles, we will be taking a late-night KBOO-style musical tour of cities large and small. Chicago? We've got it covered. New York? Fuhgeddabouddit -- you know how many songs have been written about that place? Luckenbach, Texas? Yes, if it comes to that (you'll be able to call in as well with your suggestions)

Songs about cities -- midnight to 3am this Saturday night** on KBOO!
