Later that year found support from the LOGO Network producing the music for Logan Lynn's critically acclaimed videos "Burning Your Glory" & the "Feed Me to the Wolves..." EP in 2007. The duo's momentum yielded an album, "From Pillar to Post" released under the Dandy Warhol's "Beat the World Records" label in 2009.

Special guest Tim Xavier joins Tronic

For our Spring Pledge Drive show I will be joined by a very special guest - Tim Xavier!

Tim Xavier bio:

Tim Xavier’s passion for music has kept him on the forefront of techno since his innovative releases a decade ago on Blueline. His incomparable, diverse production has transcended through the maturation of alternative dance music, and his dark, edgy sound has somehow remained in tact through his evolution. His current minimal/techno hybrid sound is featured on labels like Clink, Limited400 and Cocoon. He is the owner and chief engineer at Manmade Mastering in Berlin, and this sleepy-eyed coffee addict defines cool as he cuts master plates for many respected labels such as Spectral Sound, Wagon Repair, Minus, Mobilee, and B-Pitch.

Thavius Beck Live at Holocene

program:
Plugged In
program date:
Thu, 04/02/2009

Composer of mercurial soundtracks for uncertain times, Thavius Beck conjoins various strains of electronic music to arrive at a daringly ambitious sound. He recently joined a lineup of local artists to celebrate black electronic music and benefit KBOO at Holocene in Portland, Oregon.

Joining him were Rasheeda Ameera, Cheetah Finess, and Ayam  in a night curated by KBOO's Deena B of The Soundbox. Listen to the whole set on the Free Music Archive.

Mr. Beck has received recognition in The Wire, Spin, and Urb for his solo releases under the moniker Adlib, the Labwaste project with fellow LA artist Subtitle, his recent production for fellow Mush artist K-The-I???, his early work with Global Phlowtations, numerous guest appearances, and producing for and touring in support of and accompanying Saul Williams. An exceptional programmer, engineer and multi-instrumentalist, Thavius Beck’s many talents allow him to take a song from idea to completion without ever having to leave his cluttered studio. What is a Beat Off?  Well maybe not what you think.

Recently, Holocene hosted one of a series of these where electronic musicians are given a variety of short samples of music and are challenged to come up with some dope beats in one hour.  Wanna hear what it sounds like?

Those who participated include Techno Mike, Quiet Countries, Magnum PA, Dirty X Rated, Shrubbery, Demi Batard, Cutter Filtoff, Graintable, Demdranger / John Henry, Rude Boy, The DJ Nealie Neal, and Sedell Jones who was voted the winner of the battle.

Special thanks to organizer Erik Beats for setting this up.

As a preview of the upcoming Beat Off at Holocene, I hosted the organizer of the event and a few electronic artists who will be competing.  We even had our own mini beat off beat battle on the air.

On the show was Beat Off organizer Erik Beats, Dirty X Rated, The New Plastic, and Trick-Assed Marxist.  We heard some of their work, including some of their past competitions, and then finished the program with a beat battle challenge using the same samples that will be used for the Beat Off next week.  You'll have to listen to find out who was voted the winner!
