Out Loud

Out Loud is KBOO's queer culture radio show, celebrating & serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning & allied communities. We feature interviews with community groups, authors, musical talent, and anyone from the queer & allied communities. We strive to give voice to those not heard in the main stream media.
Update on our schedule change for 2013 :: Out Loud will not air the last Tuesday of each month in 2013. Instead, you can enjoy 'Tune In, Turn On and Remember: 45 years of KBOO Community Radio'. This special public affairs programming consists of gems from the KBOO archives in celebration of our 45th anniversary!
Out Loud is a community created radio show. We need volunteers to help create Out Loud. Please consider getting involved, as there are many things that need to happen before, during and after each radio show. Your skills and contributions are welcome and needed! Email us if you have any questions about getting involved, or even if you just want to say 'Hi!'

Kicked Out: Stories by Homeless LGBT Youth
In her foreward to the new anthology Kicked Out--by current and formerly homeless LGBTQ youth-- Judy Shepard (mother of Matthew Shepard) notes that a disproportionate percentage of the youth on America's streets are there in part because they identify as lesbian, gay or transgender. In this special episode of Outloud, Jacob Anderson-Minshall speaks with Kicked Out editor Sassafras Lowrey and four of the contributors to this powerful collection (Jenn, Tenzin, Ksen and Tommi). Longer versions of interviews with Tenzin, Ksen and Tommi are also available on our site at kboo.fm/outloud
For more information about the book visit kickedoutanthology.com. The site also has a reference section. Those in Portland Oregon can learn more about programs for homeless youth through these fine organizations: SMRYC, Outside In and the Circus Project (founded by Jenn Cohen, one of the show's guests and contributor to Kicked Out)
This program aired live during the Membership drive. It has been edited to remove most of the membership drive pitching, and may have some choppy transitions. We still want to encourage you to make a donation to KBOO, to support programs of this kind. You can do so by clicking on the tip jar on the website, or calling us at 503-232-8818.; Thank you for your continued support!

Celebrating what sets us apart
It's time to celebrate what sets us apart! The queer community is judged and treated differently for our private lives. Tonight we embrace and celebrate local queer sex-positivity on Out Loud.
Krissy Fiction, from the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence joins us to talk about BOINK! a porn benefit for the Sisters' Grant Fund and Cascade AIDS Project. Boink is happening Sat, January 23rd @ Invasion Nightclub.
The event was born when a donor gave Cascade AIDS Project 800 porn DVDs and tapes. CAP contacted the Portland Sisters and suggested a partnership to have the Sisters hold a porn-themed event as a fundraiser for both organizations. BOINK! came into existence as a sexy, naughty, and most of all, FUN way to raise some money!
All proceeds from the raffle and sales will go directly to the Sisters Grant Fund and to CAP. So all monies raised will be going directly back to the Portland community.
Between interviews, Billy Brag's song 'Sexuality' celebrates what sets us apart - sex!
Darklady also joins Out Loud this evening to discuss her work, her parties, and more!
We also celebrate Dirty Queer's 3rd Birthday, which happened Fri Jan 8. We'll hear from Sossity, MC for and creative force behind DQ, as well as dirty queers (from the audience) on what they like best about this monthly event!
As always, we'll share a variety of community announcements and event listings. If you have something to share with our community, let me know: outloudradio@gmail.com

On tonight's queer hour, we hear from the Collective of Geniuses. CoG’s mission is to create art that challenges the notions on which class, gender, privilege and other social demographics are based. CoG is gearing up for a queer craft fair and a Homo for the Holidays event, both in mid-December.
