Out Loud is KBOO's queer culture radio show, celebrating & serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning & allied communities. We feature interviews with community groups, authors, musical talent, and anyone from the queer & allied communities. We strive to give voice to those not heard in the main stream media.

QUEER HORROR is a new multimedia festival of genre works by queer artists, performers, and filmmakers. Short films and videos are punctuated by live campfire storytelling and performances that question horror’s relation to queerness and what it means to identify with the monster.

We chat with Benjamin Gerritz, Prevention with Positives Coordinator at Cascade AIDS Project, about some salient health issues:

syphilis, focus of a town hall at Q Center last week;

PrEP, pre-exposure prophylaxis, a medication that helps prevent HIV infection through taking the medication every day;

and anal dysplasia, aka anal cancer.

In 2013, Benjamin has been named to the POZ 100 - a listof 100 HIV positive people from around the country who are committed to ending the epidemic.

Since 1994, the Gay and Lesbian Archives of the Pacific Northwest has been working to discover and publicize the history of sexual minorities in the Pacific Northwest. Tonight we welcome Ampersand Crates, a volunteer with GLAPN. We'll discuss GLAPN's work over the years, and their upcoming party! To celebrate their 21st anniversary this year, they've organized a month-long exhibit in the Aaron Hall Gallery at the Q Center in February. Everyone is invited to the opening reception on Thursday, February 5, at Q Center.

We'll be talking with Melissa Vollono about the intersections/connections between the struggle for trans liberation and #BlackLivesMatter.  This would include the importance of disrupting everyday society, and the power that comes from mobilizing a working-class movement for black and trans liberation.  This is the subject of Meliss'a talk at PSU last week, titled "From Ferguson to Leelah Alcorn: Re-Examining the Roadmap to Black and Transgender Liberation."

We'll be talking about housing and homelessness among queer and trans youth, on Out Loud this week. Our guests are:

Kiera Hansen is the Youth HIV Educator with Cascade AIDS Project's youth sexual health education program, CHATpdx. They have been working with queer and trans young folks experiencing homelessness for over a decade.

Micah Giardina is the coordinator QueerZone, a program of Outside In. QueerZone provides support to queer, trans and ally homeless youth under age 25. Outside In is an agency providing many services to homeless youth, adults and more including housing support, daily meals, case management, medical care and more.
