Just over a week ago a major operating manual for the United States Military prison camp at Guantanamo Bay was leaked and posted on the internet.This manual reveals that the military had an official policy of putting some new prisoners in isolation to break them down psychologically.A number of psychologists were involved in the development of the so-called ‘harsh interrogation techniques’.

the American Psychological Association continues to condone psychologists’ work on interrogations at Guantanamo and CIA black sites. 

KBOO reporter linda Olson-Osterlund talks with the head of the Oregon Psychological Association to see what position they are taking on this debate.

 

Bombs tested on Hawaiian army base w/depleted uranium

On Hawaii’s Big Island, U-S Air Force planes are dropping unarmed bombs the size of a small automobile.

The first fear was of a bomb missing its target and hitting a school or hospital.
But now, as we reported yesterday on KBOO News, the army base where the practice bombs are being dropped has been discovered to be contaminated with depleted uranium.

Today, KBOO’s Crystal Leighty spoke with Activist Jim Albertini on the Big Island.

Quakers Speak about Issues at Palestine-Israel Peace Talks

As George Bush hastily made his entrance and exit at a one-day Israel-Palestine peace talk in Annapolis Maryland yesterday, others in the area were organizing events to bring attention to issues that weren’t addressed in the summit.

Phil Karoum is with the Annapolis Friends Meeting, a Quaker church that organized events yesterday and Monday in Annapolis. KBOO’s Jenka Soderberg spoke with Mister Karoum earlier today:

This past Friday was declared ‘Fur Free Friday’ by animal rights activists nationwide.  Here in Portland, a march was held by the group ‘In Defense of Animals’.

Klamath Plan Favors Irrigators

Fish and wildlife experts are criticizing the new federal water plan that dictates how much water is allowed to flow down the Klamath River for the next decade.

They say the plan puts already struggling fisheries, fishing communities, and national wildlife refuges at risk, in favor of irrigators, and that too much water has been promised to too many people.

Felony Question Removed from Mulnomah County Job Application

Student deported while renewing driver's license

On Friday a young college student was arrested when she went to the Department of Motor Vehicles in Hillsboro to  renew her drivers license.
