On November 19th Eva Lake talked to Prudence Roberts, Sue Taylor, Elizabeth Bilyeu and Marie Sivak RE: Jaune Quick-to-See Smith's visit and lecture which is at ~ 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 21, in the Performing Arts Center, Sylvania Campus. Smith’s talk “My Life as a Cultural Arts Worker” will address not only her artistic process, but also the complex political and cultural symbols as well as narrative elements she weaves into her paintings, prints and other works. We discussed the lecture and also about the inception and development of PCC's Portland Women in Art Lecture Series.

On Tuesday October 29 at 11.30am Joseph Gallivan interviews Maribeth Graybill, The Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Curator of Asian Art at the Portland Art Museum.
Graybill will talk about Samurai! Armor from the Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Collection. The show is about the life, culture, and pageantry of the samurai, the revered and feared warriors of Japan—from one of the finest and most comprehensive collections in the world.
Samurai runs through January 12, 2014.

Art Gym curator Terri Hopkins was our guest on September 10th - she retires in January 2014 after 33 years directing the gallery. Under her leadership, The Art Gym has become a regionally renowned gallery showcasing contemporary Northwest artists. Since its founding in 1980, The Art Gym has shown the work of more than 500 artists, produced more than 65 exhibition catalogs and sponsored numerous artist roundtables and public forums.

Deep Field Gallery opens on June 30TH at 1126 NW 13TH. Director Jennifer Porter of Chroma curated their first show of 4 artists all working in steel. The show is called Steel Environics, featuring Stephen Miller, Brian Mock, Eric Holt and Garrett Price.
The guest is local mixed media artist Mar Goman, who has a show at the 23 Sandy Gallery through June 16th.
The show is titled "INTROspective," and it features a series of unique artist books as well as other three-dimensional pieces using book pages, handwritten letters, matchsticks, rusty bits and more.
Kathleen Stephenson guest hosts.
Mar also has a show at Francine Sedars Gallery in Seattle from June 8th - July 4th.

Guest host Kathleen Stephenson spoke with Linda Sawaya, Seidel Standingelk and Carol Matsuyoshi, local artists and activists involved in events surrounding the 20th anniversary of the WE SPEAK MURAL PROJECT, talk about the history of the project and the current installation of mural panels in the Columbia Gorge.
In 1991 the first Gulf War instigated the creation of an organization in Portland called ALANA: Asians, Latinos, Native Americans and African Americans for Peace and Justice. in 1992 ALANA organized a mural project called WE SPEAK presenting a minority view of the Columbus Quincentenary being celebrated that year across the nation.
Artist and activist Linda Sawaya organized the anniversary events. Linda painted one of the thirteen murals on racism and alternative views to the view the Columbus Quincentenary of 1992. Carol Matsuyoshi collaborated with other artists on the Asian/Pacific Islander panel. Seidel Standingelk collaborated on two panels.
