An Evening of Afrotainment

Black music is to U.S. music what Africa is to civilization... the cornerstone.

Don't believe it? Just Listen.

Join host Celeste Carey, aka Adiva, to hear music of the African Diaspora by Black artists-worldwide. All genres...from African traditional to esoteric experimental. Slip and slide aurally through the spectrum of the Black experience.

I do read posts!

You will concede, for I do read-to capture listeners' thoughts, indeed.
Then I'll proceed; your soul to knead, and on my vibe, your ears will feed.
Your mind will heed, I'll plant the seed ....the phat-est beats for you I'll breed.

Pied piper lead: Adiva's creed "let not the light from us recede"...
In Afrotainment...to all things... what they need.
Celestially, Ms Adiva

An interview with iLLPHONICS

Air date:
Sat, 10/04/2014 - 7:00pm - 10:00pm
Short Description:
An interview with iLLPHONICS
It's the melange of musical styles and cultures that makes iLLPHONiCS deft masters of the hybrid genre they call "hip-hop fusion." Delight in the different musical influences converging into a distinctive sound: funkadelic basslines, soaring guitars, dangerously barbed hooks all inerrantly ignited by lead-man Larry "Fallout" Morris' staccato soul-spitting rhyme. Adiva (Celeste) takes you diving into the aural soul-stream in an ill phonic interview with iLLPHONICS on "An Evening of Afrotainment", here on KBOO-FM.

Welcome to a New Year.  I'm starting my show with two songs off the music from the acclaimed television series Africa to set the tone for the international hour of music I will deliver. Terrence Howard will send us in another direction rich in history and electrical rythmns.

The rest evolves as it should.

Stay tuned and enjoy.

Rocked Saul Williams and Afro Punk to prime you for the Sunday show (November 15, Aladdin Theater). Be there or just be bent...

Lots of new music...Earl Greyhound (opening for Saul), Tv on the Radio (not even here but still in effect), some Jack Davey and her band J*Davey (not Afro Punk but still rockers). We even had some Saul Williams to set the airwaves afire.

What is Afro Punk...well, it's full of the fury and political fervor your expect from punk...just with a Black sensibility and swagga....you do know what swagger/ swagga is don't you.? Best act like you do.

Bands like Bad Brains, Fishbone, 24-7 Spyz set the tone (OGs of Afro Punk). You could even add Living Color if your argument was compelling. I doubt Vernon would mind. Nu Skool includes Suffrajett, Noisettes, Earl Greyhound and El Pus who has a member appearing with Saul...Tchaka Diallo. El Pus on MySpace claims they've disbanded, but they've left some tracks...aural artifacts...? Bread crumbs to come find them?

I also rocked Blaktroniks, who dropped hot beats like lava at the Club 6 Afrotek Festival this December past (2008) in San Francisco. You wanna hear Mechanized Soul (first release) to Robo Bop/ The Edge.

So little time, so much music-folks I had lined up didn't play...so you do it:

  • El Pus
  • Black Beard (afro punk, rebel rock/ country...really)
  • Mami Watu
  • Noisettes
  • Keziah Jones (he drops BluFunk)

If I'm inna house next week...it's on! In the meantime,

Peace and hot beats!

Celeste  aka Adiva

Celeste--I didn't get in. but this the best music on the rdio a NOW, thank you@   trina\

Great Music!

I also listened for the first time this past Saturday. I was searching the website afterwards to find the name of the song that played at 7:55pm.
Here I came back to search the following night and am I glad to have read this section first. No wonder I couldn't find it. In the meantime, I found some great music from your previous play lists and I'll be back.
Thank you!

Adiva's Celestial vibe-ology

Do I read posts, sARu
Submitted by Afrotainment on Sat, 06/21/2008 - 7:27pm.

Saru:
You must concede, for I do read-to capture listeners' thoughts, indeed.
Then I'll proceed; your soul to knead, and on my vibe, your ears will feed.
Your mind will heed, I'll plant the seed ....the phat-est beats for you I'll breed.

Pied piper lead: Adiva's creed "let not the light from us recede"...

I dig the groove

Celeste,

I enjoy your spins very much. You have an ear for what's good and a mind that can bring it all together seamlessly. But please, can you post what you play each week? It would be a public service to your listeners and the artists you play.

Peace,

J.

Afrotainment

Jan 3, Sat eve 7:00p.m., my husband and I are enjoying your selections! Please tell what artists did "Amazing Grace" and the african song with the drums that followed. Gave us goosebumps! I want to buy some of this music.

Thanks, Penny and Dave

Playlists to be posted very sooooon!

J:
I will get them on; I've been promising far too long. KBOO's website has changed so much, but now we are ready for this next step.
I should have this past Saturday's done by the end of the week.
Thanks for listening!
