'De-Spare Change': Warsaw, Weber & The Plan

program:
Air Cascadia
program date:
Tue, 11/26/2013

It's always and all ways "Sensitive dependence on initial conditions...", Rupert Sheldrake. Climate change is the prroblem Chaos Theory is made for.  The problem itself is complex - but it isn't complicated. Up to this point - and ' this point' is the risible futile, impotent COP19 outcome - most of the proposed solutions are either disaster capitalist technofix in nature or they are halt comsuption solves, which Americans ignore entirely and developing nations reject on grounds that they deserve the growth that got us all in this mess together.
So we have a complex solution to a complicated problem...Let's see what Michael Dorsey and Even Weber have come up with in terms of a Plan...

Slippery Business
‘Name That Law’: The Reality Show rolls out  ‘The Federal Lands Jobs and Energy Security Act’ or ‘Chuckie’, if you prefer..Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-CO),  (And the American Legislative Council held his dick for him while he spoke (That’s why they call it ‘dick-tate???)  legislation hands  oil and gas companies carte blanche to drill on public lands. If signed into law, the legislation would automatically approve onshore drilling permits if the U.S. Department of Interior (DOI) failed to act on them in 60 days.
And if you don’t like it, you can cough up $5,000 which buys you a permit to protest.

It paves! It clears! It Cuts! – But Wait, there’s more!  Lamborn's proposed bill would direct the DOI to begin commercial leasing for the development of oil shale, a controversial type of production that has been largely banned by the United States since President Herbert Hoover prohibited the leasing of federal lands for oil shale. Oil shale - which should not be confused with the more common "shale oil" - is a type of rock that needs to be heated to nearly 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit to produce crude oil, which then has to be refined.

Spooky Business
Gary Ruskin, Director of the Center for Corporate Policy, Ruskin wrote the just-released report "Spooky Business: Corporate Espionage Against Nonprofit Organizations" for the group Essential Information. Turns out that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Walmart, Monsanto, Bank of America, Dow Chemical, Kraft, Coca-Cola, Chevron, Burger King, McDonald’s, Shell, BP, BAE, Sasol, Brown & Williamson and E.ON -- have been linked to espionage or planned espionage against nonprofit organizations, activists and whistleblowers.
Ruskin:
"Giant corporations are employing highly unethical or illegal tools of espionage against nonprofit organizations with near impunity. Our report documents how corporations hire shady investigative firms staffed with former employees of the Central Intelligence Agency, National Security Agency, U.S. military, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Secret Service and local police departments to target nonprofit organizations.”

Go Norse, Young Man: David Swanson v. Killer Drones

program:
Air Cascadia
program date:
Mon, 11/18/2013

Last week – November 15th to be precise – author and contributor to War Is A Crime.org, David Swanson wrote a piece that knocked me sideways.  Not so much for the story but for the implications.  If Germany can say ‘No’ to the ultimate drug, then surely , other nations will follow. This a triangle situation: Israel and America are the world’s top peddlers of Death from Above and Germany is a super power in that its economic might is bolstered by it global credibility.

Author of When the World Outlawed War, War Is A Lie and Daybreak: Undoing the Imperial Presidency and Forming a More Perfect Union.

Swanson writes: “Germany had planned to buy a fleet of "Euro Hawk" killer drones -- perhaps in an effort to bring the European Union up to speed with certain other Nobel Peace laureates.” But what if one Nobel Laureate is on the skids and the ‘Mini-merica’ is increasingly viewed as a loose canon in a tight corner?

I asked Swanson how public pressure can effect change when the government does not appear to be listening and I was assured that government is lisdtening.  Like the teenager that it is, the US government just seems to be ignoring us.
Not so, says Swanson. Here’s the link: http://warisacrime.org/content/germany-says-no-weaponized-drones

Here's some audio from Kevin Gosztola.  Kevin is attending the court martial proceedings at Fort Meade, and he spoke to us during a recess. Judge Denise Lind's decision not to dismiss the 'Aiding the Enemy' charge could well be a doubleedged sword for government prosecutors - depending on their skill in using it.  One side or another, it isn't the sword of justice and it sure and hell is not mightier than the 'Pen'...

The CRC: the Bridge with no beginning and no end.

Bad timing for Kitzhaber and company… The Washington Legislature is ready to put the bow on its dreaded Special Session and there is still a lot that won’t fit in the box.  The last thing lawmakers want to go hunting for is the money to pay for a bridge that people don’t want, the state doesn’t need and no one but Governor Kitzhaber, so it seems, really believes will solve congestion problems.  There are academics who study this problem; they publish learned monographs on the subject of congestion.  Ands what they have found is that adding mre freeways just adds to the traffic problems.

And  then there’s the height issue: not high enough for river freight, says the Coast Guard.  The Coast Guard has veto authority over the project, and CRC officials expect the agency to decide by Sept. 30 whether to issue the necessary bridge permit. but there may not be a decision from the Coast Guard by then.  CRC planners need $450 million from Olympia and a Coast Guard permit by mid-October in order to apply for federal funding they describe as crucial and about to expire.

Ray McGovern on Bradley Manning re: Lynne Stewart v. Resistance Ecology

program:
Air Cascadia
program date:
Fri, 05/31/2013

Join us at Portland State University

for the first annual Resistance Ecology Conference!

It's the first annual Resistance Ecology Conference in Portland, Oregon, May 31st to June 2nd 2013, at Portland State University (PSU). This conference is a cooperative effort between the Student Animal Liberation Coalition (PSU), Oregon Jericho Movement and a new movement organization: Resistance Ecology. The conference advocates for a movement of resistance that is multi-layered, unified, diverse and intersectional. This is the first of what we hope will become an annual Resistance Ecology Conference. Previously, the organizers of this conference have helped to organize the Let Live and Law and Disorder Conferences in Portland, Oregon as well as the Portland Anarchist Bookfair. There will be speakers, panels, and workshops occurring all three days.

And then there are those times when you don't have to do much at all...justt kick back and watch the rodeo.

Monsanto apparently pulled a classic 'Farmer's Daughter' 10 years ago; The Luche Libre of seed apparently sowed some 'Wild Oat's’ in Eastern Oregon.  Monsanto – for unknown reasons -  killed the ‘Werewheat plan.

And I  would really like to know why…

Now the bottom falls out of Oregon’s Big Ag Business with Japan.  When the shit storm hits Europe, watch what happen to Wall Street…

"Calling All Angels" May 30th Jam those Powerlines on behalf of Lynne Stewart

program:
Air Cascadia

Wed, 05/29/2013

Ralph Poynter

has been by her side for all these years of courage in the face of this empire's justice juggernaut armed with a weapons-grade National Security apparatus that listens only to the echo of its own footsteps along the empty corridors lit by burning spooks...

Ralph joins us today on 'Air Cascadia' to talk about the urgency that attends this 'Call-in Campaign in the name of Compassionate Release.  Lynne Stewart's cancer would never have progressed this far had she received proper care.  Carswell is in addition to being a Communications Management Unit, also a medical facility....but of course for Stewart to receive treatment, the government would have to want to save her life.

If Death = Silence, indeed, Silence = Death

Nothing would be better than to air Lynne Stewart's own words from prison...And I want to emphasize, not just any prison, but one of the prime example's of America's dirty dark secret: Communication Management Units. Prisons for political dissidents, voices that dare, through their speech and their actions to illuminate the lies beneath the surface.  Few Americans know who the Blind Sheik is, what he is accused of, what Lynne is accused of and what actually happened.  At this weird tangent in time, when even the mighty  Associated Press gets DHS's 'cavity search' Daily Special, it is critical for people to hear the real story.  The point being,  if , as in Lynne Stewart's  case, the government's version and the actual facts diverge so dramatically, who do we trust? And how the hell do we find them when they are silenced behind the walls of a CMU'?  If America poses itself as a beacon of justice, a lot of ships are going to wind up on the rocks...

Thursday, May 30th the day of this nationwide direct call action.  Get on the blower and jam those ‘powerlines’.

But more than anything else, I want her released.  The thousands of lives Lynne's life has touched bear testament to the greatest of her spirit.  They may have broken her body but her soul is intact.

Fort Meade-ia: Why the Most Classified Thing About Manning is his Pre-trial Hearing

program:
Air Cascadia
program date:
Thu, 05/23/2013

 http://vbc.cityrepair.org/

The Bradley Manning Support Network reports today that a coalition of journalists is challenging the  Manning trial secrecy in civilian court;  And the Nobel Peace Prize petition continues to draw signatures, 50,000+ at last count. Signed it yet?

Julian Assange and coalition of U.S. journalists sue military over transparency in Bradley Manning’s case. Glenn Greenwald, Amy Goodman, and the Nation magazine join the WikiLeaks editor in a lawsuit against the Department of Defense seeking access to basic filings in Manning’s case. This suit seeks recourse in a civilian federal court, following a military appeals court’s rejection of the same lawsuit last month.

Military judge Col. Denise Lind ruled to close the court during trial for 24 of the government’s witnesses because they’re expected to divulge classified information.

That’s rich: so these witnesses are going to divulge classified information in the courtroom during the pretrial hearing of a man accused of aiding the enemy by releasing a massive amount of documentation – most of which was not itself classified…

This suit is especially important given the Pentagon’s half-hearted – to put it generously – attempt to make some documents public. In late February, the DOD established a FOIA Reading Room dedicated to publishing legal filings in Manning’s case. But it has only made 85 of the 500+ documents public, hasn’t added any new ones since March 15, and has not made any of the most newsworthy or legally significant rulings available.

Whistling in the Dark...

program:
Air Cascadia
program date:
Wed, 05/22/2013

From Salem the movement proliferates…The nation had its pants blown off this week; 200-plus mph winds drove a massive tornado straight into Moore, Oklahoma.  The American people went into overdrive…because that is what we do when white Americans are killed.  Asked what was odd about this particular tornado one voice said that the thing hit a populated area; usually they breeze through the Midwestern vastness managing not to hit  a baby on their way through.

Some of us waited in vain to hear the question: How much worse is this going to get? How can we afford to keep rebuilding these places that get hit by extreme weather conditions.  People forget that the weather is attached to the Climate…and the Climates, They Are A-Changin’.

Back to Salem where the notion of putting a price on co2 emissions, voluntarily.  Putting a price on the  destruction wrought by the effects of CO2 in a super-heated world, that part is not voluntary.  Until we ruin out of money, of course.

Meanwhile a  few courageous people have been calling foul in any number oif areas.  What do Bradley Manning, Walter Tamosaitis, Robert MacLean, Thomas Drake, et al have in common?  Well, they blew the whistle on someone or some thing soaked in pure power and in a few cases they got wrung out.

These are the final days of Bradley Manning’s pretrial hearings and it all comes down to what’s really classified and is it  possible to classify something after the fact?

Mike Adams of Natural News explains it this way:

In addition to the more common gene splicing, at about 1:44, Bruce Lipton explains that the study of Epigenetics has found a class of molecule called ‘micro RNA’s’, and when they are spliced in, ‘when we eat RNA-tweaked food, the micro RNA is picked up by our digestive systems and not broken down, and they end up in our cells; they our genetics, and change the readout of our genome.  We’re eating a class of micro RNAs that have never been in the world before.’  The process is irreversible.  ‘They change the actual beneficial gut bacteria that help immune responses, and alter the genetics of our own cells.’  Gosh, wouldn’t you be proud of patenting these genes, hiding the fact on labels, and killing massive amounts of soil, water, reproductive and other endocrine health in animals, fish, rats, insects and humans just for the fun and profit of controlling the world’s food supply?

http://www.prwatch.org/news/2013/05/12112/dissent-or-terror-how-arizonas-counter-terrorism-apparatus-partnership-corporate-

A little capitalism goes a long way…All the way to the incorporation of America, in fact.  With The American Legislative Exchange Council leading the charge (Ho ho ho,’charge’? Put it on my card?) corporations are rewriting the modern American Book of Laws.  In fact, The Rise of the Lobbyist lead to The Fall of the Occupier.  Except in areas where resistance, activism, anarchism have been in the blood for some time, there is little curiosity when it comes to the Firm’s Finger of Fate writing laws that suit the firm not the family. Private prisons, Corrections Corporation of America; Halliburton and Dynacorp in Iraq; the charter school movement…and of course, ALEC, a product of the revolving door that churns the shining waters of Washington DC.

And some of the corporations fighting over American spoils are not even based in the US.

But it’s all there in the article, Beau Hodai’s Dissent of Terror.

Read it and weep…

membership means more

your threat of quitting your membership gives me two options for analysis:

1) you gave money to Theresa via KBOO.

2) if Theresa died tomorrow, you'd give up your membership.

my interpretation

1) that's cool, man.  you support community-based radio based solely on your dedication to one weekly half-hour show. that demonstrates that Theresa's voice represents/intrigues you (and many, many others); however you don't feel represented by any one of the other 500 people who volunteer their time and energy in the 24/7 endevour, and you don't value the input (and miraculous existence!) of the other 5-10,000 members and ten times as many listeners; neither do you support the KBOO mission of including as many underrepresented voices as possible on the air, with natural turnover, schedule changes and opportunities as new people arrive.  Membership gives you the power to affect the decision-making, which is why you gave money to Theresa via KBOO; and, by golly, you will do everything in your power to keep her on the air, and you want the KBOO website visitors to know how you feel when they read the comments.  You'd even like them to join you in your fight.

2) wow.

my opinion

Personally, Theresa's show is one of my  favourites and there are plenty of shows that I not only don't like or don't listen to, but also complain about out loud.  It's my radio station, and, like my family, I will not be quiet when they need to shape up or ship out.

writing inflammatory statements on the webpage will remain simply that: inflammatory statements with a reaction or two from trolls (see the 20 pages of Anonymous written about me because of the audio I submitted that Jenka edited), which, in the end, result in: NOTHING.  If you want to chat with others online, that's fine, but you should know that nothing said here is considered in the Committee meetings. It's just an informal public forum, not policy binding.

my advice

Instead of threatening us (volunteers, members, listeners and our very existence), why not use your valuable internet time to phrase it as, for example, a question to which one of us could easily respond:  "Have there been any changes to Theresa's show?  I noticed lately that it has been preemented or even cut.  It is my favourite show. [I fear Air Cascadia will take its place--not necessary but very telling that you chose Chris' page to write it--ed.]. "  You can copy the question to Theresa's email (though I know from experience she doesn't respond) and/or print it out and put it in her cubby hole at the station. And/or show up to the meetings.  And/or call Theresa during her show--she takes calls, you know.  Ask her if she'll train or mentor you to do the same kind of work she does.

p.s.  Air Cascadia basically is the AM News is Chris Andreae: i was engineering {i'm flattered that you liked it}and was very sad when it was cut--but that is the way of the station; we adhere and adapt to the ever-fluctuating needs of the larger community--but i watched, with great pleasure, as it morphed into Air Cascadia.  Though i adore Dennis Bernstein, 15 less minutes of his voice is no skin off my back.

Highting!

The anchor news program

The anchor news program Democracy Now, conveiniently aired at 11 AM so that all could tune in was moved to 7 AM with a result that most if not all of the people who work nights won't be tuning in as they are still sleeping. Also missed the 40th anniversary bash as it was inconveinently held from 4 to 10 Pm, on a weekday, which would exclude anyone working swing from attending unless they took a day off. Why couldn't this have been held on a Saturday or Sunday?
Air Cascadia is a very rough and unpolished program that leaves me tuning to OPB or just turning it off.
The choppy, emergent voice of Cris Andreae is certainly a large part in that.
If it is true that Press Watch will be axed for this then it will be an easy decision to withhold future pledges from this listener.

What happened to Presswatch?

Is Air Cascadia taking over what Therisa has been doing? If so, I may give up my membership. First, the am news gets axed to accomodate Democracy Now, now is Presswatch going under the plow?
